The 2020 One Act Play Festival

At Las Cruces Community Theatre April 24-26, 2020

Las Cruces Community Theatre Is now accepting applications from interested authors and/or directors for our 33rd Annual One Act Play Festival. Every year, the Las Cruces Community Theatre promotes our local writers by offering them an opportunity to present their work in front of live audiences. We are looking for original theatre works written by local playwrights which meet the following guidelines:

  • One act plays, or a cutting of a full length original play

  • 10-15 minutes in length (no longer, please!)

  • Simple technical/design requirements

  • No more than six in the cast

  • Content should be suitable for a general audience

Playwrights interested in applying should apply with a stage director; if the playwright does not have a director and the play is chosen for the festival, LCCT will assign a director.

DESIGN/TECHNICAL: The One Act Play Festival celebrates new voices and new scripts; the design and technical aspects of the plays need to be kept to a minimum. If a play is selected for the Festival, the LCCT Production Supervisor will meet with the author and director before the first rehearsal to discuss the design and technical aspects of the play.

BUDGETS: The budget for each play is $50 which is to be spent on set, costume, and prop expenses only.

AUDITIONS: Pre-casting of some or all roles is encouraged. If you need to hold auditions, LCCT will hold a group audition for all of the one acts on Monday, March 30th from 6:30-8:00 PM. All the directors and authors seeking cast members should attend the audition.

REHEARSALS: Directors should plan on 8 hours of rehearsal for the typical 15 minute play, not including the week of dress/tech rehearsals before opening. The first rehearsals at the theatre will begin Monday, April 13th. The production supervisor will coordinate rehearsal schedules with the director for each play with the goal of holding at least two 1-hour rehearsals during the week of April 13th. Rehearsals will typically be scheduled in the evenings and weekends. Tech week rehearsal is tentatively scheduled Monday, April 20th through Thursday, April 23rd, with performances Friday and Saturday, April 24th and 25th at 7:30 PM, and a Sunday matinee April 26th at 2 PM. Directors are responsible for finding their own rehearsal space prior to starting rehearsals at LCCT on April 13th.

All applications must be submitted by Friday, March 20, 2020 to the email or street address listed in the application. You will be contacted regarding the status of your submission by March 23, 2020.

Good Luck – we look forward to hearing from you and presenting your work to our Las Cruces community.
